Why do so many guilds have so many officers?

The guild I'm in is actually a pair of guilds (over 160 people), and we have a total of 6 officers (including the leaders).... I'm not one of the officers, and I've never once stopped and said "hey! we sure could use another officer!". Don't recall anyone else complaining either....

Its because too many guilds give officer way too easy.
Most "noob" guilds will give officer to the first 5 people, then give officer just so people are happy and stay in the guild.
They don't give them out for the right reasons.

I think simply because there is nothing else to give, if we could give out custom ranks to people in guild it would be much easier, that way you can show someone is "special" to other (new) people without giving them powers that they may not need or may not be able to handle.

The easiest solution? Promote everyone to officer! Then everyone will feel special and no one will get kicked

Ahh, but...when I made my guild I brought people from my old guild with me. I made those people Officers and then we got to our 60 members in a month. Ones that left I replaced them with people I trusted. The person who promoted the other person (lets call the officer I promoted #1 and the officer I didn't promote #2). #1 left the guild right after promoting #2 so maybe #1 replaced himself so that I wouldn't have to worry about finding a new officer...but then officer #2 kicked everyone out and then left right after kicking all the members out. At the time I was at a friends house so once I got home I checked the status and could only recover 16 members. 5 of them came back and 11 of them are still pending and I haven't even seen them online so they must be some of the members who were close to being 1 week inactive. We are back to 30 members but it would have been alot easier if Officers couldn't promote other officers.
